This little gem of an airport is overlooked by many locals as well as visitors. True, it’s a small airport connecting to limited destinations, but if those destinations happen to be where you’re headed or coming from, you should consider Long Beach Airport (LGB).
Here are some reasons why this airport is so great:
→ The retro California look and feel reminds travelers of the glamour of flying. Especially when you walk up to the aircraft instead of using a jet bridge.
→ The outdoor area past the security check point is an airport rarity. Lined with palm trees, it allows travelers to sit outside and get some fresh air while sipping on cocktails and enjoying the California sun.
→ The airport is dominated by jetBlue, one of the best domestic airlines.
→ In the last couple of years, LGB has made it on various top 10 airport publication lists.
→ It has great rankings for low average airfares in California and the US.
→ It has great rankings for on-time performance and departures.
→ Food and beverage is sold by local businesses for regular street prices.
Eats & Drinks:
Below is a list of food and beverages available at LGB. Nope, you won’t find Starbucks on the list. I repeat, these are ALL Long Beach establishments!
- 4th Street Vine Wine & Beer Bar (outside seating, cocktails and small plates)
- Boathouse on the Bay (outside seating, cocktails and full menu)
- Taco Beach Cantina (food court style, also has a bar)
- McKenna’s Burger (food court style)
- George’s Greek Café (food court style)
- Polly’s Coffee & Sweet Jill’s Bakery (food court style. Sweet Jill’s is famous for their cinnamon rolls so grab some for your flight, for whoever you’re visiting, or to take back home with you.)
Your options are limited here, but the two stores, 562 Experience and CNBC Gifts and news, carry a variety of Long Beach apparel and gifts along with the usual travel necessities like snacks, books, and magazines.
